Remember, if you are using the Gregorian calendar and your loved one passed away after sundown, select the following day in order to get the correct Hebrew calendar date.

It is customary to observe the yahrzeit (the anniversary of a loved one's death) by lighting a small yahrzeit candle in your home at sundown on the eve of the anniversary of the day of death, by making a donation to charity in memory of the one who has died, and by attending services and reciting the Kaddish prayer (an acknowledgement and celebration of God's power).
